Additional Notes & Condition Report
Larger Inkstand: appears to be in generally good condition; no apparent hairline cracks to any of the glass panels; the colorless glass insert (inkwell) is most likely a later replacement; this insert fits well and presents well; this insert does, however, have a small nick to its top rim edge and a small shallow flake chip to the bottom/underside rim area; the hinge appears to be in good working condition; the beaded trim appears to be in good condition with no loss or evidence of repair; retains all four ball feet; the patina on the underside of the cap (lid) is heavily corroded, consistent with age and usage; there is general wear and dulling to the exterior patina; some old ink stain splatter residue on the exterior, consistent with age and usage; this inkstand is numbered as model 844)
Smaller Inkstand: one side glass panel is cracked (located on front side panel); this cracked area appears to be relatively stable and is not readily apparent when examined from the exterior side because of the etched pattern; otherwise, each of the other glass panels appear to be in generally good undamaged condition; the underside of the cap (lid) is heavily corroded; the patina on the exterior side is extremely dulled (would perhaps benefit from being waxed); there is scattered mint/sage green colored patina (?) mildew (?) visible on all sides, underside and in some of the crevices on the cap; retains all four ball feet; there is a small area of loss to the metal band area around the center area where the glass insert (inkwell) is located; hinge appears to be in good working condition; the glass insert (inkwell) is likely a later replacement; this insert sits well and presents well; this inkstand is numbered as model 37; height of smaller inkstand 3 1/8 inches; 3 3/4 inches square
