KIPLING, RUDYARD Just So Stories.
London: Macmillan and Company, 1902. First edition, the first issue with the printer's mark on p. 251. Publisher's decorated cloth, in the rare original dust-jacket, housed in red morocco slipcase and chemise. 9 x 7 inches (23 x 17.5 cm); [4] ff., 252 pp., [3] pp., illustrated throughout by Kipling. Several losses to the jacket, including a hole with moderate loss at the spine; the cloth bright and the white decoration (often chipped in this issue) in excellent condition. Bookplate (by Rockwell Kent) of Robert J. Hamershlag; book-label of Katharine de Berkeley Parsons.
Copies in the jacket are exceptionally scarce. The last such example we note was sold in 2015, and similarly had some small losses to the jacket. Stewart 260; Martindell 99; Livingston 267.
