KIPLING, RUDYARD Rudyard Kipling's Verse. Inclusive edition.
London: Hodder and Stoughton, (1927). First impression of the India Paper One Volume Edition, inscribed by Kipling to William Maxwell, with an ALS and other materials. Publisher's full leather, in the white card box of issue. 8 5/8 x 5 3/4 inches (22 x 14.5 cm); xiv, 744 pp. Some wear and restoration to the box, descriptive notes written on box, the binding with a few marks but near fine overall. With the bookplate by John Farleigh of Maxwell, Hodder's managing director and the designer of this work.
As noted, the book is inscribed to Maxwell. Additionally, at the rear is an initialled page proof, a card on Bateman's stationery from Kipling stating that it was a pleasure to work with Maxwell (dated January 11, 1928), and a very cordial autograph letter on a small sheet of Bateman's stationery expressing great--and informed--pleasure in the typography. The leather binding was the deluxe issue of the India Paper edition. Stewart 529.
