London: s.n., 1649. First edition in English, one of two forms of the same year, priority unknown. Period calf, crudely rebacked, all edges sprinkled red. 7 x 5 1/4 inches (17.5 x 13 cm); [xx], 405, [15] pp. Binding rubbed, crudely rebacked in cloth, traces of a removed label on spine. Lacking initial blank and half-title, some toning and minor staining, marginal losses to A4 and B1, bookplate of the College of New Rochelle, occasional library notations in pencil to the preliminaries, sewing separated before X1 with the last portion of the text block loose in the binding. Note on rear blank "James Fox borrowed of Mr. Ridgell 1669".
There were simultaneous quarto and octavo editions. This copy contains the final seven-leaf section "A needfull caveat or admonition for them who desire to know what use may be made of, or if there be danger in reading the Alcoran," which is frequently lacking or defective.
