Comprising: SCOTT, WINFIELD. Rare early autograph letter signed, May 1826, two pages on recto and verso of one sheet, to Colonel R. Jones requesting inquiry into the recent censure of surgeon named Dr. Beaumont and hoping it has "effect on the mind of the President" (J.Q. Adams), stained affecting some text and small losses, offered with e CDV portrait of Scott; WELLES, GIDEON. War date resignation document signed, 30 March 1864, on one page of Navy Department stationery, the letter accepting the resignation of a midshipman at Newport, fine; WELLES, GIDEON. War date repair order signed, 1863, letter in secretarial hand signed by Wells authorizing the repair of the roof the barracks at Brooklyn, framed with a portrait; PORTER, FITZ JOHN. Autograph letter signed to Jerome Bonaparte, 17 October 1854, 1 1/2 page letter on recto and verso of one sheet, the letter congratulating him on his prospects ("so much brighter than plodding with half a dozen men over the prairies after Indians not to be found"), fine; SHERIDAN, PHILIP. Autograph note signed, 20 February 1888, one page on a small sheet of Army Headquarters stationery, written to publisher Fred Hall and mentioning Mr. Scribner, publisher of his memoirs, toned and with some original ink spotting; and SHERIDAN, PHILIP. Letter signed to Secretary of State Frelinghuysen about a dispatch from the War Department at Tokyo, 29 October 1884, on two sheets of War Department stationery, fine. The lot 6 items (one framed).
