Cast-Iron Portrait Wall Plaque Depicting George Washington
Signed under shoulder A. W. Jones, Sculp. N.Y. , and inscribed at base of frame Patented 1858. Height 37 1/2 inches (95.3 cm), length 30 1/4 inches (76.8 cm).
Anthony W. Jones was born in 1792 and served in the War of 1812. His 1858 portrait of George Washington is considered one of his finest works and is known in few examples. We note a similar example in the collection of The New York Historical Society.
