Lot 152
[NEW BRUNSWICK] O'HARA, FRED S., Dr. Home Spun Yarns Artificially Colored. A Narrative of Hunting Experiences in the New Brunswick Woods.
N.p. (but printed Springfield, Illinois): [Privately printed, 1925]. Inscribed by the author "to a brother commando cameleopard" and dated 1944. Flexible faux-hide wrappers in custom slipcase. 7 1/4 x 5 1/8 inches (18 x 13 cm); 111, [1] pp. Light binding wear, small chip to title, generally sound.
We have been able to establish that O'Hara was a radiologist based in Springfield, Illinois, who died in 1950. WorldCat lists one copy only, and we find no trace at auction; the work appears to be genuinely rare. Doctor O'Hara appears to have been a jocose soul, and these accounts of hunting (primarily moose) in the North Woods are indeed vividly colored with funny anecdotes.
