[winter 1861-2]. Albumen print on neatly lettered card mount, 10 1/2 x 15 7/8 inches (268 x 402 mm), annotated neatly in a formal hand on the mount as noted above, the mount hand-ruled (l.r.) Good tones, though somewhat mail in the immediate foreground.
The Metropolitan Museum changed its attribution to "formerly attributed to Brady" on a related image (with the troop column differently positioned), but offers no attribution. Given the large plate size, which Brady favored, and the fact that Brady himself photographed in the field at this period, Brady does seem to be the most likely author of this image.
