Russian Icon of the Ascension
Early 18th century
Rectangular, the lower section depicting the Mother of God flanked by Archangels Michael and Gabriel and two groups of Apostles, the upper section with the circular glory containing Christ being elevated to heaven by angels. Height 21 inches (53 cm.), width 17 inches (43 cm.).
