Russian Icon of the Dormition of the Theotokos
17th century
Rectangular, centering the body of the Theotokos on a bier, flanked by St. Peter and St. Paul and Apostles and mourners, with Christ above her holding her soul in the form of an infant, surmounted by a seraph, with an applied silvered metal border embossed with scrolling foliage. Height 12 inches (30.5 cm), width 10 inches (25.4 cm.).
