Provenance:
Christie's, London, 14 May 1973, lot 164.

F. Severne MacKenna in Plymouth & Bristol Porcelain, p. 96, notes this model and her male companion "are extremely rare and are very interesting to compare with the Worcester prototypes, being reversed and reduced versions of the latter." A single example of the male gardener was sold by Sotheby's, London, 23 June 1944. The only other known pair was sold by Sotheby's, London 12 March 1957, lot 109 and again Sotheby's, New York, 27 October 1992, sale no. 6352.
