. (Tokyo): T. Hasegawa, n.d. (circa 1931?), distributed by the Macrae-Smith Company of Philadelpia. Five crepe-paper books in original wrappers, housed in a the American publisher's wrap-around case with bone ties in the Japanese manner. 7 1/2 x 5 1/4 inches (19.5 x 13.5 cm); various paginations, illustrated throughout. The slipcase worn, faded and rebacked, the volumes clean and bright.
The titles, all translated by Hearn into English, include The Boy who Drew Cats; The Goblin Spider; The Old Woman who Lost her Dumpling; Chin-chin Kobakama; and The Fountain of Youth. The creping process was used by Hasegawa (and a few other Japanese publishers to provide a novel effect to woodblock printing, providing a flexible page with intensified color.
