London: Colburn, 1828. First edition. Two volumes, three-quarters dark brown calf of the period, spines textured in blind, marbled sides. 8 5/8 x 5 1/2 inches (22 x 14 cm); xx, 591, [1] pp.; viii, 730 pp.; with two maps and 13 plates (three folding, four double-page, one colored). Some rubbing to sides, light binding wear, some foxing to plates. Lacking half-titles and ads.
A second copy of the folding map of Mexico is laid into this copy (this has a slight tear). Henry Ward was the British chargé d'affaires to Mexico in the three years preceding publication. The fine map in the first volume is an important one, including Texas; this was engraved by S. Hall. Sabin 101303; Abbey, Travel, 668; Hill, p. 319.
