Contemporary sheep ruled in blind on the covers and spines, cloth case. In slightly varying sizes, the first volume 6 7/8 x 4 1/4 inches (17.5 x 11 cm); the third volume 7 1/8 x 4 3/8 (18.1 x 11 cm); the second volume sized between. [4], 268; [4], 216; [2], 285, [2] pp., with the license leaves in volumes I & II and the errata at end. A very fine set which was discreetly repaired at an early date adding some leather to the original spines, some contemporary signatures and marginalia, volume I without endpapers, a sound and pleasing set.

A very fine set in contemporary bindings with fine provenance of Butler's famous political satire of the Restoration. This set is first issue with the word "Saint" in the imprint of volume I; the word "Authour" to the title of volume II; and the "a" in "Part" in volume III directly under the "rd" in "Third" on the title of volume III. The set also retains the rare license leaves and errata. This set sold in The Library collected by the Late Seth Sprague Terry and by Ward E. Terry, 4-5 December, Anderson Galleries, 1935, lot 64; This set resold in the Distinguished Library of Frank Capra, Beverly Hills, Parke-Bernet, 26-27 April 1949, lot 81 (both catalogues with the note "probably the finest set in existence").
