London: Sherwood, Jones, and Co., 1825-1826. First edition in book form, this copy with three original drawings by Robert Cruickshank, with two extra-illustrations. Two volumes, publisher's boards, cloth spines renewed but retaining labels, in protective wrappers of watered green silk, slipcased. 10 x 6 1/4 inches (25 x 15.5 cm); xxiii, [1], 417, [1] pp.; xvi, 399, [1] pp., with 71 hand-colored aquatint plates and one uncolored plate as called-for by Abbey, variously by Robert Cruikshank, Thomas Rowlandson and others. An uncut copy. The Clarence S. Bement/Joseph Widener, with their bookplates, apparently purchased by the former from F.T. Sabin, the latter from Rosenbach.
The original drawing for plate 28, Vol. I, is laid-in opposite p. 389; that for plate 21, volume II, is laid-in opposite p. 254; and that for plate 35 is laid in opposite p. 387. Abbey Life 325; Tooley 50.
