Paris: Ambroise Vollard, 1924. One of 280 copies, this copy 238 from the portion of the edition on Vergé D'Arches. Publisher's printed wrappers, with an etched design by Bonnard, in cloth slipcase. 15 x 11 inches (38 x 28 cm); 196 pp, with 55 original etched illustrations (some with additions in drypoint) by Bonnard, printed by Louis Fort, of which 14 are full-page and hors-texte, laid-in at the end of the book. Light wear to wrappers, minor losses to the head, in general a fresh copy.
Bonnard's fine illustrations (his first venture in etching and drypoint) for Mirbeau's satirical dog story, lampooning the mores of small-town French life. Matterlin, 1976-78; Carteret, Illustres IV, p. 282.
