MALTHUS, THOMAS ROBERT An Essay on the Principle of Population; or a View of it's Past and Present Effects on Human Happiness.
London: T. Bensley, 1803. Second edition ("A New Edition, very much enlarged"). Contemporary calf, rebacked at an early date adding leather to joints and preserving much of the original backstrip, cloth slipcase. 10 1/4 x 8 inches (26 x 20 cm); viii, [4], 610 pp. The rebacked joints now splitting and nearly detached, the spine and older parts of binding dried and with losses, foxing which is worst at first and last leaves.

While described as a second edition, this edition added much material to the 1798 first and is considered a new work.
