New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, [1924]. First edition, with a check signed by Ring Lardner laid-in. Publisher's cloth. 7 1/2 x 5 inches (19 x 13 cm); 359 pp. Extremities lightly rubbed, page edges toned, fine overall.

Laid into this copy is a $250 check signed in full by Lardner dated 1932 made out to a Manhattan doctor (Ring Lardner died of complications relating to tuberculosis in 1933). The check was provided to a collector by Lardner's son in 1978, who offers in a signed note: "I don't have many of these left ... so I am distributing them to genuine aficionados only."
