WILSON, WOODROW Mere Literature.
Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1896. First edition, with a fine inscription from the author: "May this little volume speak clearly, to whomsoever may own it, of a genial love of good books and a deep love of country. Woodrow Wilson/Princeton, 12 Dec., 1898." Publisher's cloth, housed in a cloth case. 7 1/2 x 5 inches (19 x 12 cm); 247 pp., an unopened copy. The binding lightly rubbed with some separations along joint, the upper hinge cracked, the lower hinge partly cracked, the inscribed leaf lightly toned.

A fine, unopened presentation copy, inscribed not to a named recipient but simply to those with a "love of good books." The work includes a longer essay on Edmund Burke and profiles of "Great Americans" such as Alexander Hamilton, Sam Houston, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, and Abraham Lincoln.
