Louis XVI Ormolu-Mounted White Marble Mantel Clock 'L'Amour Perdu'
Jean-Antoine Lépine (1720-1814), late 18th century
The standing figure of a veiled mourning woman, one elbow resting on an urn, the pedestal with a torch above a white enamel dial signed Lepine Hger du Roi, on a stepped rectangular plinth with inset ormolu panel; the backplate signed Lepine hger Paris No. 4339. Height 23 inches (58.4 cm), width 11 1/2 inches (29.2 cm), depth 7 1/4 inches (18.4 cm).
Jean-Antoine Lépine was one of the most important Parisian clock makers of the second half of the eighteenth century and supplied numerous clocks to the French court.
