GRAHAME, KENNETH The Wind in the Willows.
London: Methuen and Co., [1908]. First edition. Publisher's blue-green cloth with design of Pan on the upper cover, the top edge gilt, uncut, housed in a cloth slipcase. 7 1/2 x 4 3/4 inches; vi, 302 pp.; frontispiece by Graham Robertson. A very fine copy with only light shelfwear and a faint white spot to the upper corner, spotting to endpapers, first and last leaves, and intermittently throughout, worst at verso of frontispiece, a bookplate removed from front blank which also bears the faint signature of Ruby S. Arnold.
An attractive copy of the first edition of this classic of children's literature. The book ran to a second edition the same month of the first and went on to achieve a measure of popularity that far exceeded that of his other books, and which has endured to the present day.
