Original purple cloth backed boards with paper spine labels, in chemises with morocco lettering labels and slipcase. 7 3/4 x 4 1/2 inches; 2 (ad leaf at front), 311, 4 pp. ads at rear; 319 pp., uncut as issued. Both bindings with some measure of wear, including some gnawing to the upper cover of volume II, ink signatures of "E. Stone" to titles with some offset, an embossed library stamp has been scrubbed from the title of volume I only and pockets removed from the rear pastedowns, some foxing and small stains, in all a sound copy uncut in boards issued. A well preserved and unrestored set with small losses and scratches to the darkened labels, ink signatures of Samuel Merwin with notation from Yale, 1837 to blanks, pencil signatures of Juliet Brown, foxing, small modern stickers to pastedown of two volumes.
