Impressed diamond registry mark (29-A-R-2) for 29 August 1871, black painted shape no. 2763 and :.
Oval, the cover molded as a large fish resting on a bed of ferns and foliage, the side molded as basketweave. Length 23 1/2 inches.

Nicholas M. Dawes, Majolica, fig. 77, p. 48-49, notes tureens of this model were made in two sizes (19 and 23 inches) and featured either mackerel or salmon.

Cover: presents well; professional restoration to the top rim edge rim of the tail fin, including overpaint (approx. 1 1/2 in.); the overpainting is now somewhat discolored; consistent splotchiness to the pink glaze (same as on server); blacklighted
