Group of Continental Majolica Character Pitchers
Circa 1890-1910
Comprising two Sarreguemines Barbotine examples of Punch and Judy, Punch with impressed uppercase mark, Judy with black printed Utzschneider & Co. mark, Punch with impressed model no. 3431, 22A and BB, both modeled seated, she with a ribbon-tied mob cap, blue kerchief and white apron holding a slapstick, he in a red and yellow jester's costume, loop handle at back, height of Punch 13 inches, height of Judy 12 inches; a Sarreguemines Barbotine example of John Bull, impressed uppercase mark, model no. 3729, 227, F and G black painted 73, modeled seated in top hat, blue bow tie, tailcoat, vest, breeches and boots, holding two money bags, loop handle at back, height 13 inches; and an Onnaing French Barbotine example of a reservist, impressed Fr(aience)rie O(nnaing) crowned shield mark, model no. 752, the besotted soldier holding a drinking cup while slightly listing astride a wooden stave barrel, labeled, 'Vive La Reproduction des Periodes,' height 11 inches.
