Recently rebound in modern half calf over marbled boards, spine titled and ruled in gilt, all edges sprinkled red. 7 1/4 x 4 1/2 inches; lxxxii, 268, xxxiv, 111, [11] pp.; engraved frontispiece, 13 engraved plates and numerous in-text illustrations. Two tissue guards loose, contents lightly foxed and browned.
An illustrated and annotated edition with large additions by Sir John Hawkins (1719-1789), one of Samuel Johnson's closest friends.
