[Madhya Pradesh Province:. n.d., ca. mid-1890s]. American photograph album in black cloth, with remains of label, Obrig Camera Co., 163 Broadway, New York. 38 original photographs, captioned in ink on mounts. Hinges repaired, three leaves excised, else very good.
Record of an Indian hunt in Madhya Pradesh by A.H. Pollen, Brooks, and H.P.W. and a large party of Indian support staff. The bag depicted includes several sambur deer, wild boar, and one tiger. There are many scenes of camp life and the staff, as well as of elephants and camels. Pollen is likely A. Hungerford Pollen, who illustrated The Land of the Muskeg (1895); Pollen travelled to North America and India as private tutor during this time.
