[INDIA-HUNTING] WARD, A. E. The Tourist's and Sportsman's Guide to Kashmir and Ladak &c.
Calcutta: Thacker, Spink & Co. 1896. Fourth and revised edition. Original dark brown cloth, printed paper label to upper board. 8 x 5 1/4 inches; [2], x, 197, [1] pp.; erratum slip tipped in. Light edgewear, corners bumped, uneven fading and staining to cloth, boards lightly buckled, title page toned.
The author writes in his introduction that this new edition is directed more towards tourists than sportsmen. This is because of the scarcity of game in the region, as well as the Maharaja's newly introduced, and much stricter, game laws. He later states: "do not for one moment imagine that the sport former obtainable can now be got... there are not now one-tenth of the animals that existed even fifteen years ago." Czech India p. 222 (1892 edition).
