"This work was apparently extracted from the Boone & Crockett publication Hunting and Conservation edited by George Bird Grinnell, then bound in card covers for distribution to the author's friends. A former boxing champion at Yale, Whitehouse was part of the sporting expedition of James Harrison that also featured P. H. G. Cotton-Powell. The party left Zeila on the Somaliland coast in late 1899, trekking toward the Awash River. Numerous heads of plains game were bagged before elephants were encountered in the dense forested region near the Awash. They continued to Addis Ababa where Powell-Cotton departed. reaching Lake Rudolf, they marched to the Omo River where elephant, rhinoceros, white topi and other game were hunted." Czech Africa p. 301.
