[SOUTHSIDE SPORTSMEN'S CLUB] Southside Sportsmen's Club of Long Island. Officers, Members, Constitution and Rules.
Oakdale, Long Island: 1932. Publisher's gilt red cloth, all edges red. 75, [1], pp.; color printed folding map tipped-in. Edgewear, light stain to upper board.
Chartered in 1886, the Southside Sportsmen's Club catered to wealthy businessmen on Long Island's Gold Coast, providing them with a large park for hunting and fishing. In its heyday, it had over a hundred members from the highest echelons of society, including such luminaries as Daniel Fearing, Frederic Rhinelander, W.K. Vanderbilt etc. etc. The Club's land is now part of the Connetquot River State Park Preserve, though the clubhouse still stands (and is on the National Register of Historic Places). Items pertaining to the Club are exceptionally uncommon on the market, because of the limited membership. Rare--we found no copies of this edition in WorldCat and no past sales recorded on Rare Book Hub.
