Lot Details

Lot 81
[NEBRASKA-HUNTING] STEELE, W.H. Memories of by-gone days.
Self-published (printed by the Beacon Press, Omaha), 1912. First edition. Publisher's green cloth gilt. 8 1/2 x 5 3/4 inches (22 x 14.5 cm); 191, [1] illustrations in text after photographs. Light wear. Non-authorial inscription on front endpaper.
A scarce work in commerce, of which we trace no example at auction. The book consists of chapters on hunting and fishing in the Midwest: mostly Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota, a little Colorado etc. Most of these appear to have first been issued in sporting journals and small newspaper. In all, the book paints an attractive picture of the life of an enthusiastic sportsman in the region in the latter quarter of the nineteenth century.
