SMITH, W. EUGENE (1918-1978) [Mad Eyes, Haiti],
1958, likely vintage. Gelatin silver print, dry mounted to pale gray card, 8.8 x 12.125 inches (224 x 307 mm), unsigned, mount verso with W. Eugene Smith's stamp. Some minor oxidation, slight chipping to image along lower edge of image where mounted, one minor retouching noted, generally excellent tones. Framed.
Early printings of this classic image tend to show more background detail, as here (we note one early proof print in which the background is fully visible, but this seems to be exceptional).
