Match safes proved to be an excellent vehicle for companies to advertize their services and products. Today we largely forget the role smoking played in American life, where sharing a light for a cigarette or cigar was an act that brought people together at intervals throughout the day. Match safes were often made as novelties to encourage conversation and advertising examples such as this would be given by firms to be carried by clients who could then share their experiences with the firm and encourage new business.
