Renaissance Revival Carved and Parcel Gilt Rosewood and Repousse Copper Center Table
Pottier & Stymus, New York, late 19th century
The circular top with classical scenes in repousse copper border centering a figural scene on porcelain, on a base with turned post, shaped supports continuing to gilt cast bronze busts, and cross-shaped pedestal issuing carved shell feet. Height 25 inches, diameter 36 inches.
Note:
Pottier & Stymus, prominent New York designers from the late 1850s to the early 1880s, are thought to be unique among makers of the period in using repousse copper borders as decorative elements.
