Brigid's father, Richard Emmett Berlin, was personally chosen by William Randolph Hearst as head of the Hearst Corporation beginning in the 1940s when he was instrumental in saving the famed company from financial ruin. He served in the role until his retirement in 1973 having been with the firm for fifty-four years.
