ADDAMS, CHARLES [Original illustration of a group of Addams family relatives, apparently suffering from writer's block].
Ink and grisaille wash on Whatman cold press illustration board, signed "Chas Addams" at lower right. 13 1/2 x 12 1/4 inches (34 x 31 cm) on sheet 19 3/8 x 14 1/2 inches (49.5 x 37 cm). The margins stained by an old application of adhesive (no longer tacky), well clear of the area of the illustration, old notations on verso of sheet.

We have not been able to identify the place of publication of this fine drawing; it was probably prepared as an advertising cartoon, and was likely issued without caption. The Ophelia-like figure on the left resembles other waif-like souls in Addams's cartoons, but the artist did not name any but the main protagonists at the time the drawings originally ran.
