[ANGLING] DAVIS, EDMUND W. Salmon Fishing on the Grand Cascapedia.
New York: [The De Vinne Press] for private distribution, 1904. Limited edition, this number 55 of 100 copies on laid paper. Original parchment-backed boards with printed label to spine. 9 1/2 x 6 1/2 inches (24 x 16.5 cm); ix, 143 pp., [1]; 15 photogravure plates (including frontispiece) and 3 color plates of flies all with printed tissue guards, half-title. Spine a little soiled, label minutely chipped, minor soiling and toning to boards, internally fresh. Bookplate of the Wilbur B. Downs collection (and traces of an earlier plate).
Davis was one of the eight founding members of the Cascapedia Club, which purchased the lease of the river from the Canadian Government in the 1870s (it had previously been leased to Canada's Governor Generals). One of the world's great salmon rivers, it is famous for yielding huge fish. The book, beautifully produced, is scarce. Two variants were published, one with 143 pages (as here) and one with 152 pages printed on japon paper; it is unclear what if any priority exists between the two states. Bruns D25; Gee 88; Litchfield 71.
C Property of a Massachusetts Gentleman
