[MAPS--UNITED STATES] MUNSON, BISHOP. A New and Embellished Map of the United States. Compiled from the Latest & Most Authentic Documents.
Cincinnati: 1845. Engraved by Doolittle & Munson. Engraved map on four sheets joined, with partial hand color, on original rollers, the linen backing appears somewhat recent. 38 x 50 inches (97 x 127 cm); mounted in a fine shadowbox frame by APF Munn Master Framers. Lightly toned, a few small losses to margins and corners, some visible repairs and abraded areas.

A very fine and expansive map of the United States and Western territories from 1845, the year before the Mexican War. The map shows a large portion of the Texas Republic and extensive Indian Territory. An area within Iowa shows lands "Ceded by the Sioux indians to the United States/Neutral Ground/Ceded by the Sac & Fox to the United States." Insets within the map depict Oregon and Florida and the title vignette shows the landing at Jamestown in 1607. The border contains views of six cities of Western interest such as St. Louis, Cincinnati, Louisville and Nashville between state seals and portraits of ten Presidents through James Polk. We trace no copy of this edition in Rare Book Hub and note a variant issue of 1845 with the imprint of Doolittle, Munson & Sherer.
