[MAP--SCOTLAND] THEUNISZ, JACOBSZ. De custen van Schotland met de Eylanden van Orcanesse, van 't Eylandt Coket tot I. Sande.
Amsterdam: Iacob Theunisz op't water in de Lootsman, [1644 or later]. Hand colored engraved map, central fold, framed. 16 1/2 x 20 3/4 inches (42 x 52.5 cm) to the neatline. Lightly toned, mostly to the margins, faint creasing, Argosy sticker to back of frame, not examined out of frame.
A scarce Dutch Golden Age navigational chart showing the coast of Scotland, with Edinburgh and Aberdeen, as well as the Orkney Islands. The map details soundings, rocks, shoals and anchorages, and it includes compass roses, rhumb lines and an illustration of ship. It was initially included in Theunisz's navigational atlas, De Lichtende Columne, Ofte Zee-Spiegel, first published in 1644 and then again in 1650. It was reissued by Pieter Goos in 1666, after he had bought the plates from Theunisz.
