Two volumes, contemporary leather backed speckled calf, gilt spine, gilt lettered spine labels, all edges sprinkled red. 8 1/4 x 5 inches; volume 1: xvi, 401, [1], volume 2: viii, 398 pp., volume 1 with half-title, hand colored aquatint frontispiece, and errata at end. Moderate wear to board extremities, nicely rebacked with replaced endpapers, contents with occasional pale spots.

An epistolary travel narrative about the Middle East, containing a wealth of medical, cultural and ethnographic information, as well as advice for other western travelers. Blackmer 1056.
