LENNON, JOHN Power to the People: the Political Thoughts of John Lennon.
London: New English Library, [1972]. Proof in original wrappers with "Uncorrected Proof Copy - Not For Sale" to the wrapper. 7 x 5 3/4 inches (17.5 x 14.5 cm). A fine copy overall with a nick at the tail of the spine, a few minor scuffs to covers, a small dimple to half-title, else fine.
Lennon's Power to the People put in print his increasingly radical political ideas. The title is the same as John Lennon and Yoko Ono's 1971 song, of which he said "I just felt inspired by what they said, although a lot of it is gobbledygook. So I wrote 'Power to the People' the same way I wrote 'Give Peace a Chance,' as something for the people to sing." The book was never published, potentially over fears that Lennon's comments would jeopardize his green card application. Reportedly 60 copies of this proof were produced in these plain wrappers, and it is thus quite scarce.
