[CHINA] CONFUCIUS. The Morals of Confucius a Chinese philosopher, who flourished above five hundred years before the coming of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Being one of the choicest pieces of learning remaining of that nation.
London: printed for F. Fayram, at the South Entrance into the Royal-Exchange, Cornhill, 1724. Stated second edition, though actually the third edition (this is a reissue of the edition of 1706, with a cancel title page; there was an edition of 1691]. Old calf gilt, period or period-style, marbled endpapers, all edges sprinkled red. 6 1/2 x 3 3/4 inches (26.5 x 10 cm); [xvi], 136 pp. Binding lightly rubbed overall an exceptionally fresh copy. Book labels of John Ward (armorial, c. 1800?) and the bibliophile Arnold Muirhead (plate designed by Reynolds Stone).
All early editions are quite rare, and derive from the Latin translation by Prospero Intorcetta, or from the French translation based on that.
