[MAERSCHALK, FRANCIS] Two 1820 copies of mid-18th century surveys by Maerschalk.
The first is a map of Dyes Street bounded by the North River, King's Farm and Broad Way, originally surveyed by Maerschalk in 1748 and here copied by City Surveyor George B. Smith in 1820, with the copied texts by Abraham Varick and DeWitt Clinton, 16 x 20 1/2 inches (41 x 52 cm). The map is backed. Some staining and tears, dust soiling, generally fresh and with an 18th century appearance; The second is a map of Queen Street bounded by a "Road that Leads to Fresh Water," Prince Street, Thomas Street and showing a stretch of King George Street, originally surveyed by Maerschalk in 1762 and copied by City Surveyor George B. Smith in 1821. The map is backed. 22 x 18 inches (57 x 46 cm). Some staining and dust soiling, a few short tears, later markings within the image.
