NEW YORK, NY -- The classics were back at Doyle's auction of English & Continental Furniture & Decorative Arts on October 19, 2022. The sale saw strong prices for traditional English and Continental furniture, porcelain, mirrors, clocks, chandeliers and fine rugs from prominent collections and estates.

Competitive bidding drove an Italian Renaissance patinated-bronze salt cellar or inkwell far over its $4,000-6,000 estimate to achieve an impressive $28,350. Bearing the distinguished provenance of the Barons Alphonse and Nathaniel de Rothschild, Vienna, the bronze depicted a dramatic scene of a trident astride a sea monster with an open mouth.

From a Park Avenue Private Collection were a pair of elegant Regency satinwood banded rosewood side cabinets, circa 1810, that realized an exceptional $16,380, many times their estimate of $3,000-5,000.

Topping the porcelain offerings was an exquisite late 19th century Worcester porcelain covered two-handled urn by Flight Barr and Barr that soared past its estimate of $1,000-1,500 to achieve a stunning $10,710.
