NEW YORK, NY -- Doyle held a successful two-day auction in the popular Doyle+Design category on December 7 and 8, 2022 that saw strong prices and set numerous auction records.

Session I of the Doyle+Design sale on December 7 attracted determined competition for Modern and Contemporary furniture, silver and design by prominent designers, makers and artists of the 20th and 21st centuries Read More. 

Session II on December 8 set record prices for paintings and prints by a number of artists. Additionally, the Flower Family Collection showcased in Session II saw exceptional prices for rare ceramic figures by Martin Brothers and works on paper by Joan Semmel Read More.

Amid competitive bidding, the two-day sale totaled a successful $1,665,383, surpassing the pre-sale estimate of $1,056,600-1,635,200 with 88% sold by lot and 100% sold by value.

World Auction Records

Following in the tradition of Edward Hopper and George Tooker, Jane Dickson thoughtfully documents the energy and motion of New York City. As a part of Colab Projects throughout the late 70s and early 80s, Dickson was key to groundbreaking exhibitions such as the Times Square Show in 1980. With the painting Tilt-O-Whirl, Dickson creates a fun yet mysterious scene against an inky nighttime backdrop

. The 1986 work soared past its estimate to achieve $53,550 -- A World Auction Record for the Artist.

From the Family Flower Family Collection was a group of works on paper from the series of self-portraits by Joan Semmel, each of which surpassed the prior record for a work on paper by the artist. Topping the group was a 1978 study for Night Light that realized $28,350 -- A World Auction Record for a Work on Paper by the Artist.

Auction Records were also set for works by Samson Bonson, Patrick Quarm, Tauba Auerbach and Paul Jenkins.
