Old quarter leather. 6 5/8 x 4 1/8 inches (16,75 x 10.5 cm); xx, 347, [1] pp.; SALZBACHER, JOSEPH, [Dr.]. Meine Reise nach Nord-Amerika im Jahre 1842... Vienna: Wimmer, Schmidt & Leo, 1845. First edition. Old quarter leather. 8 5/8 x 5 1/2 inches (14 x 22.5 cm); x, 476, [6] pp.; with an attractive hand-colored folding map (showing the United States as far west as East Texas); ZIMMERMAN, E.A.W. Taschenbuch der Reisen ... Sechster Jahrgang. Leipzig: Gerhard Fleischer, 1807. 5 1/4 x 3 1/4 inches (13.5 x 8.5 cm); 284 pp.; frontispiece, ten plates (two folding); and Magazin von merkwurdigen neuen Reisebeschreibungen, aus fremden Sprachen ubersetzt und mit erlauternden Anmerkungen begleitet. Berlin: Vossischen Buchhandlung, 1797. Disbound. 8 x 5 inches (20.5 x 13 cm); 284 pp., folding plate of a kayak. Some toning, wear etc..

The first work is Howes K191, Clark Travels in the Old South III, 339, with an interesting section on slavery. Of the second see Graff 3661: "Dr. Salzbacher toured the south first and went as far west as St. Louis. Later, he traveled east via Chicago. His primary concern was Roman Catholic institutions." Buck 373: "...he tells of a trip to St. Louis by way of the Ohio and Mississippi River and back across Illinois by stage to Vincennes..." Clark, Travels in the Old South, Vol 3:233. Howes S58. The third is a scarce little work on Peru, and the last contains Hearne's "Travels to the Frozen Ocean," translated from the English by Forster, Sabin 43808.
