Contemporary calf, rebacked, spines decoratively gilt and blindstamped, two spine labels lettered in gilt. 11 3/4 x 8 3/4 inches (29.5 x 22 cm); Vol. I: [18], lxi, [5], 16, [12], 459 pp., Vol. II: 444, [128] pp., with two portrait frontispieces by Vertue and 12 engraved plates after F. Hayman, complete with The List of Subscribers in Volume I. Together with: Paradise Regain'd. A Poem in Four Books. To Which is Added Samson Agonistes: and Poems Upon Several Occasions. A New Edition with notes of various authors, by Thomas Newton. London: W. Strahan [and others], 1777. Contemporary calf, rebacked. [8], 690, [2] pp., portrait frontispiece by Vertue and 4 engraved plates after F. Hayman. Each volume uniformly rebacked, the boards somewhat worn, the endpapers renewed, joints cracked, two detatched boards, the portrait in Volume I of Paradise Lost trimmed and mounted, offsetting from plates, generally clean internally, sold as is.
