Seale, one plate, and three folding plates. The first edition of the first English translation of The Koran directly from the Arabic text, preceded by a lengthy preliminary discourse on the Islamic religion - a landmark in Quranic studies. Sale gives a literary translation of the text, which loses some of the lyricism of the original, but has remained highly praised for its accuracy.
