Leiden: Jacob Marci, 1643. Two volumes. Finely bound in full French red morocco by Adophe Bertrand, the spines tooled and lettered in gilt with raised bands, gilt turn ins, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt. 5 x 3 inches (12.5 x 8 cm); with engraved titles, 313 [5]; 402 [6] pp. Small signature partially removed from margin of first title, a few nicks, fine overall.

Jean de Silhon was French writer born in Sos near Neirac around 1596 who died in Paris in 1667. He was secretary to Richelieu, whose policies he here praises, then member of the French Academy in 1634.
