London: J. Wright, 1800. First edition. Quarter red morocco, gilt lettered and decorated, marbled boards, top edge gilt. 10 x 8 inches (25.5 x 20 cm); viii, 514, [2] pp., with map and errata leaf. Rubbing and wear, contents very lightly toned with the occasional pale spot, map laid down on paper to close marginal tears and restore small loss at corner, old ownership signature on front flyleaf.

The first edition in English of Bernal Diaz Del Castillo's firsthand account of Cortez's Conquest of Mexico. The author also describes his travels in The Yucatan, Florida, Cuba and Guatemala. Palau 72373; Sabin 19984.
