Lot Details

Lot 236
Otto Fenn Three early photographs of Andy Warhol.
Three large vintage black and white gelatin silver prints, each with Fenn's "Photography by/otto fenn" backstamps. Largest 14 x 10 1/2 inches (36 x 28 cm), two slightly smaller. Some light wear and signs of handling.

Provenance: John Krug, Fenn's partner for 34 years

Andy Warhol moved to New York from Pittsburgh in 1949 and first met photographer Otto Fenn in 1951. The images here derive from that early period and depict a young, smiling Warhol wearing a bow-tie, holding a rose, and facing a wall in full length while wearing a beret. In exchange for the photographs, Warhol created backdrops for Fenn's fashion sets.
